North Carolina A.D. says Bill Belichick will do ManningCast, McAfee Show as head coach

Bill Belichick has spent his year away from coaching doing plenty of media, most prominently the Pat McAfee Show and the ManningCast on Monday Night Football. But his return to coaching won’t necessarily mean a departure from the media.

North Carolina Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham told Andrew Carter of the Raleigh News & Observer that Belichick will continue his regular appearances on McAfee’s show and the ManningCast while he is North Carolina’s head coach.

North Carolina likes the idea of its head football coach having the visibility that comes with appearances on TV shows, particularly shows that appeal to young men, and perhaps to young men Belichick will recruit to come play for him on the Tar Heels.

It’s possible, of course, that once Belichick is on the job he’ll decide he doesn’t have the time to devote to those kinds of media appearances. But it’s also possible that Belichick will conclude that his high profile gives his program a recruiting advantage, and that he’ll continue to cultivate the media image he has grown this year.
