National airline and travel associations and major airlines including Delta and American Airlines are thanking the House for approving a resolution to end the longest shutdown in US history on Wednesday, saying the vote means operations will be restored.

An end to the 43-day shutdown will allow airlines to return to a normal schedule before the busy Thanksgiving holiday, said Airlines for America, a trade association for major US passenger and cargo airlines including Delta, Southwest, UPS and FedEx.

The resolution “restores stability to the people and systems that keep travel moving — but it must also drive long-term change,” said Geoff Freeman, the president and CEO of the US Travel Association, a national nonprofit organization representing the travel industry nationwide.

The statement urges Congress to “invest in the modern infrastructure, technology and workforce needed to keep America moving forward.”

Delta Airlines said it was “extremely grateful” to the federal employees who worked to “keep our skies safe and secure” without a paycheck.

Similarly, American Airlines said a reopened government means “our hardworking government aviation safety and security professionals will be paid, and the flying public will have deserved travel predictability.”
