Last night photos and videos of fire and damage began circulating on social media, as Russian officials reported a Ukrainian drone attack in the southern Rostov region.
This verified photo was taken in Bataysk and shows a fire burning in a central part of the city. Rostov’s governor Yury Slyusar said one person died, six people were injured and two private houses caught fire in the attack.

Ukrainian drones attacked Taganrog and Rostov-On-Don city itself too, according to Slyusar. We’ve verified video of emergency services using a spotlight to assess damage to an apartment block in the west of Rostov city.
Slyusar said last night’s attack also resulted in a fire on a cargo ship at Rostov port, killing two crew members and injuring three others. We’re yet to get visuals of that reported incident but will update you if that changes.
