Mandy Moore is “kindly” telling trolls to “F off” after she shared a crowdfunding link to help her in-laws following the Eaton fire where they lost their home.
The This Is Us star shared a post on Instagram where she said her brother-in-law and sister-in-law had “lost their home and everything they own in the Eaton fire.”
“With their first baby on the way in a matter of weeks, they need our support now more than ever,” Moore shared on Instagram, inviting her followers to donate to their GoFundMe page, which had initially set a goal to raise $60,000.
It wasn’t long before Moore faced backlash on social media for sharing the link, with many asking why she couldn’t donate herself.
Moore made an edit to the post and addressed the trolls, writing, “And people questioning whether we’re helping out our own family or attributing some arbitrary amount of money google says someone has is NOT helpful or empathetic. Of course we are.”
“Our buddy Matt started this go fund me and i’m sharing because people have asked how they can help them,” Moore continued. “We just lost most of our life in a fire too. Kindly F OFF. no one is forcing you to do anything.”
The GoFundMe page is still active, has received over 1.7K donations, and has raised more than $179K as of this writing.
Moore has also taken to her Instagram Stories to share other crowdfunding links from other people affected by the destructive wildfires. The A Walk To Remember star was also affected by the L.A. wildfires, sharing a photo of what was left of her home following the fire in Altadena.
“We were able to park and walk up our street to bear witness to all the loss. Miraculously, the main part of our house is still standing. For now. It’s not livable but mostly intact,” Moore posted on Instagram.
She continued, “We love this community and will do everything we can to help rebuild and support. Thanks for everyone for checking on us and offering us help. Altadena strong.”
