OAKMONT, Pa. — The 2025 U.S. Open and its host, Oakmont Country Club, have delivered to expectation entering Sunday’s final round. Only four golfers enter the last 18 holes under par. Only one of that group have previously won a major championship, and that came 12 years ago at a far different course. Unless a surprising charge is made — and the leaders all struggle, effectively opening the door for a late challenger — the national championship looks to be a four-horse race.
It starts with Sam Burns, a 28-year-old relative neophyte who held his first 36-hole and now holds his first 54-hole lead at a major. Adam Scott, the 2013 Masters who has not won a PGA Tour event in five years, enters Sunday one back after becoming just the third man in Oakmont-hosted U.S. Open history to score 70 or under across his first three rounds. Eighteen-hole leader J.J. Spaun is tied with Scott having impressed by not falling back to the pack after starting the tournament hotter than anyone else in the field. Two further back is Viktor Hovland, perhaps the best player on the PGA Tour without a major to his name. It will undoubtedly be a battle to the finish Sunday in Western Pennsylvania, one you will not want to miss.
