Anthony Edwards scored 16 of his game-high 30 points in the first quarter en route to the Minnesota Timberwolves’ utterly dominant 143-101 home win over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals on Saturday.

Edwards outscored the Thunder by himself in the first quarter, 16-14. His Minnesota teammates added 18 more points for a 34-14 edge.

The Timberwolves kept their foot on the gas for the entire game, taking leads of 72-41 at halftime and 107-70 going into the fourth before the 42-point victory.

Edwards was sensational, adding nine rebounds (eight in the first half), six assists, and two steals while Minnesota outscored Oklahoma City by 36 with him on the floor.

Simply put, Edwards was excellent, with a few highlights here to prove that notion.

But the Timberwolves got great performances from others as well. Of note, Julius Randle scored 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting (plus-38). And four reserves (Naz Reid, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Leonard Miller, Terrance Shannon Jr.) scored 10 or more, with the latter player scoring 15.

Shannon notably provided a fantastic spark in the first 3:32 of the second quarter, scoring nine points to give Minnesota a 46-20 lead and keep the onslaught rolling. Shannon only scored six points in the playoffs up until Saturday, but he scored more points in Game 3 than any OKC player did.

As a team, Minnesota shot 57.3 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from three while out-rebounding the Thunder 57-41.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma City guard and NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander couldn’t get going, shooting just 4-of-13 for 14 points. OKC was ice cold for much of the game, shooting just 40.7 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from three.

The Thunder simply got nothing going on the road, while Minnesota used the momentum from its home crowd to get off to a great start and never look back.

This game ultimately represented a remarkable comeback for the Timberwolves, who lost the first two games of this best-of-seven series by 41 combined points (or one fewer than they won by Saturday). Now Minnesota has fought its way back into the matchup as it searches for its first NBA Finals appearances in franchise history.

Edwards ultimately set the tone for the Game 3 knockout, and fans and analysts praised him for this phenomenal effort.

Game 4 will take place in Minneapolis on Monday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
