Damaged fiber optic lines cause 911 failure in Mississippi

911 emergency system service has been restored following a statewide outage. Scott Simmons, with the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, said the outage stemmed from issues involving damaged AT&T fiber optic lines. Crews are addressing the problem.Mississippi residents were asked to contact local authorities directly if dialing 911 fails to work. The outage lasted about three hours.The 911 lines were also down across Louisiana. Service was restored there by about 4 p.m.
