The Memphis Grizzlies fired coach Taylor Jenkins on Friday, moving on from the franchise’s all-time winningest coach with just nine games left in the regular season.
The Grizzlies are 44-29 and fifth in the Western Conference, but had lost four of five and 11 of 19 since the All-Star break.
In a statement, Grizzlies general manager Zach Kleiman did not detail why Memphis made the change now but thanked Jenkins for his six seasons in charge.
“I’m genuinely appreciative of Taylor’s contributions to this team and this city over the past six seasons. This was a difficult decision given the consistent and tangible development of our players and overall success under Taylor’s leadership. I wish Taylor the very best going forward.”

The Grizzlies made the postseason three times under Jenkins, including back-to-back 50-win seasons in 2021-22 and 2022-23. Jenkins, 40, posted a 250-214 regular-season record as coach, but was 9-14 in the playoffs.
