‘Minecraft 2’ Movie In Works With Release Set For Summer 2027

Here’s some good news to go along with Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy’s reup as Warner Bros Motion Picture chairs: A Minecraft Movie 2 is in the works at the studio with Jared Hess returning to direct the follow-up to the near $1 billion-grossing hit. A July 23, 2027 release date has been set.

The screenplay by Jared Hess & Chris Galletta is under wraps. The buzz was that there were always other worlds to build out and characters in the Minecraft-verse.

Pic is produced by Legendary’s Mary Parent and Cale Boyter as well as Roy Lee, Eric McLeod, Kayleen Walters, Torfi Frans Ólafsson and Jason Momoa who starred in the original pic.

A Minecraft Movie debuted to a record $163 million domestic opening and has since grossed $424 million, making it the No. 1 film of 2025 at the domestic box office. With a worldwide total approaching $1 billion, A Minecraft Movie is also the second highest-grossing release of the year worldwide.

Other maneuvers by Warner Bros today on the release schedule include shifting its animated movie Bad Fairies from July 23, 2027 to May 21, 2027. Cynthia Erivo is set to lead the voice cast for directors Megan Nicole Dong and Olivier Staphylas. The screenplay is by Deborah Frances-White.
