After four quarters of back-and-forth play with neither team able to gain a long advantage, it came down to one shot between the Portland Trail Blazers and Utah Jazz. And Scoot Henderson came up huge, nailing a fade-away to beat the Utah Jazz, 122-120. The Blazers somewhat avenged their recent 42-point loss to the Jazz, thanks to a fun late-game push where they shut down Utah for 2 minutes while racking up points. Let’s dig in.
Blazer of the Game: Shaedon Sharpe. He teamed with honorable mention Deni Avdija to put the team on their backs, scoring against Utah’s limited defense, while making an extra effort at the other end. Sharpe and Avdija both scored 27 points.
Stat of the Night: Points in the paint. On a night where Utah actually shot better from three, the Blazers went inside, scoring 48 to Utah’s 34.
What We’ll Remember: Scoot saves the day. The actual game was rough to watch; both teams looked like they are not in the playoff hunt. The Jazz came back and tied it in the final seconds. But Henderson was given the trust to finish off Utah, and he did just that, to the roar of the crowd and his teammates. He scored 18 points overall on 50% shooting.
What’s Next: Yet another matchup with the Dallas bleepin’ Mavericks. The Mavs have already beaten Portland twice in three weeks, and they come to down for another round Saturday night.
